Alfresco - an alternative eDRMS

Last month I talked about our quest for 100% client reference ability. We have a number of initiatives in place to enable us to get to this achievement, and we’re underway implementing some of these now, as well as starting to deliver on what we have already completed.

One of these initiatives is to be able to deliver a technology choice to information management clients. Traditionally, we’ve been recognized as ‘“hummingbird DM implementers‘. But we are much more than that. I know that, when I joined Techtonics 18 months ago, I discovered that the skills in our consulting team were far more than just implementation skills. In short, we are Information Management Specialists.

I have a team here that has significant skills and experience in pure IM consulting – business practice, architecture, how to get the most from your existing systems, as well as how to migrate to new ones. I have specialist records management expertise, specialist business process management expertise, archiving and storage management expertise – the list goes on.

So, in being Information Management Specialists, we offer our clients a service (not just a product) – one that helps clients improve their productivity through better information management. That service can be pure consultancy, advice and direction, as well as systems migration, implementation and support. The technology is just a part of it. And that world is changing.

We believe that our major vendor, Open Text, has the right information management strategy that will support those organizations seeking across-the-enterprise information management capability. That can include document & records management, asset management, contract lifecycle management, web content management, social media integration and management, email management….the list goes on.

Many organizations are looking for more of a specific solution (rather than a suite) to address their business problem, or in some cases, to leverage existing technology platforms.

So, we’ve expanded our technology portfolio to support those organizations.

Techtonics has recently become a Gold SI Partner for Alfresco Enterprise. Alfresco is a leading open source document and records management system. Enterprise is an industry robust and fully supported version of the system that takes advantage of the open source philosophy with no licence fees, and adds the benefits of full support and maintenance from a local provider (ie us!) through an annual subscription fee.

Techtonics consultants have completed the pre requisite training and, together with our information management consulting expertise, we can offer organizations a viable alternative for those wishing to move to the Alfresco platform.

Our consultants chose Alfresco after an exhaustive assessment of various document & records management platforms available in the open source domain.

We’re now ready to offer it to organizations that are keen on improving their productivity.

This month, the VP of EMEA and Asia Pacific for Alfresco, Denis Dorval, presented the system and information on Alfresco the company, to a combined audience of 40 people at Techtonics. The presentation and system demonstration was positively received by this audience and already, Techtonics has a lot of follow up work to do from this.

If you’re interested in finding out more on Alfresco, contact us and we’ll get right back to you.

In the meantime, I’ll be announcing a further development in the expansion of our technology portfolio in the next month or so. It’s all part of our quest to help organizations improve their productivity through better information management, and for us, to deliver 100% client reference ability.

Regards
